Mary L. Parker, 78, of Greensburg, formerly of Columbus, died at 5:53 p.m. Thursday, October 13, 2011, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.
Mrs. Parker retired from Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation in 1990 after 27 years of service.
A member of United Church of God in Greenwood, Mrs. Parker was an avid genealogist and enjoyed spending time with her family and taking care of others.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday.
Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Born in Glasgow, Kentucky, January 12, 1933, Mrs. Parker was the daughter of James R. and Velma Lee Turner. She married Charles E. Parker June 3, 1950. He preceded her in death April 16, 1998.
Mrs. Parker is survived by sons, James E. (Jean) Parker of Greensburg, John W. Parker of Avon and David A. Parker of Columbus; a daughter, Nancy L. Cook of Indianapolis; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jim (Helen) Turner of North Vernon, Bill (Doris) Peart of Lancaster, TX, and John (Malissa) Hoskinson of Franklin; sisters, Linda (Lester) Gates of Taylorsville and Geneva (Ron) Dailey of Altadena, CA; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her father, James R. Turner; her mother, Velma Hoskinson; her husband; and a brother, Charles Hoskinson.
